Mobile phone networks are finally reaping the rewards of their 3G networks in the UK. For years they have lost money on expensive government licenses, but now with the cost of mobile broadband at a more affordable level for many consumers, the licenses are finally starting to pay off. As demand for more traditional contract phones diminishes, mobile broadband is filling the void, ensuring the mobile marketplace remains buoyant. Another observation is that as the demand for the standard mobile phone contract reduces, there has been a marked increase in pay as you go mobile phone sales and although they are not as profitable, they also help to keep the market in a growth period at this difficult time.
